Mixed Media Polymer Quilting ~ Home & Body Décor
Polymer quilting starts with the creation of individual harmonious canes from the solid blocks of colored clay. These canes are sliced thin and merged together into a veneer sheet. Other techniques such as Mokume Gane can be used to create additional veneer sheets to coordinate with the polymer canes. Polymer gradient veneer sheets in matching colors are added to the quilt as that added place for the eye to rest.
As with fiber quilts, a pattern is designed for the best use of the veneers. The pattern is cut out and the pieces are carefully placed side by side and fused together to form one piece of polymer fabric. The remnants of these veneer sheets are then incorporated into crazy quilts so that no part of the clay is wasted. These polymer quilts can then be framed or cut smaller to cover items such as vases, boxes, and jewelry.
Polymer quilting can also be enhanced by adding mixed media elements such as wire, beads, found objects, or hand painting creating unique and unusual artistic quilts. The versatility of the clay lends itself to the creation of wonderful pieces of art for both home and personal wear.
